The 90s were drawing to a close when an explosive Destiny’s Child grabbed the limelight with their irresistible sex appeal, attitude and boldness. Originally comprising Byon Knowls, Klndria “Klly” Rowlan, LaTayia Luckett and LaToya Robertson, the all girl band went multi-platinum before eventually being crowned the best selling of all time.

“No, No, No” the single of 1997 that started it sold a million globally, heralding the dawn of the diva age where no man could stand in the way of her burning desire to have it all. The evidence was for all to see in With Me, the single from their self-titled debut album whose lyrics went, Do you ever wonder when he don’t come home who he goes to see, why in the middle of the night he leaves you alone, cause everything he wants is with me. Lyrics like these made it clear that these were women who didn’t hesitate to claim their due.

The World Music Awards declared Destiny’s Child the top-selling all-female recording group ever. They earned to their credit, 35 RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications and share with the Supremes the distinction of the maximum album releases to peak in the Top 5 for a female R&B group.

Their last release, Survivor in 2001 with Survivor and Bootylicious, topped the chart before the spunky ladies went separate ways with solo releases. Their plan as disclosed to Ebony, was for individual CDs before a reunion for group recordings.

In 2004, they regrouped once more to release Destiny Fulfilled, the album that marked the culmination as one of the most fascinating success stories in music history with the announcement that it would be their last album together. While it may be the end of one chapter, fans eagerly await the next move in the lives of Michelle, Kelly and Beyonce of Destiny’s Child.
